Momdoulary Method includes multiple certifications in our requirement of our certified professionals, including certification as a Parenting Preparation Coach. As a Parenting Preparation Coach, our certified professionals are prepared to help support a growing family through the often-times complex “Big Learning Curve of the Birth Year and Beyond.” We do this because we recognize that pregnancy and childbirth do not stand-alone, the process of transitioning into parenthood is a life-altering and on-going one. At Momdoulary Method, we believe that it would be amiss to not train our doulas to also assist expectant families in navigating the complexities of the journey into parenthood from every angle.
When you become pregnant, it is often as if everything in your life has suddenly changed. You discover new things about your body, your relationship with your partner can shift and change both for better and sometimes worse in some areas as unknown expectations arise, as can your relationships with friends and family. For instance, instead of going out with friends or your partner in the evening, you may be tired and prefer to sleep. That can impact relationships. As can switching up from spin class with friends to pre-natal yoga. Pregnancy and parenthood change our way of relating and engaging with others dramatically, and that can come as quite a shock to growing families. A trained Parenting Preparation Coach can help you prepare for this, and find ways in which to help your relationships and lifestyle evolve in a positive direction as you ride through these changing dynamics.
That is only the start, however. There is suddenly a vast range of topics to learn about, from pre-natal care to parenting methods and styles. How your baby will eat, sleep, play and be managed are all major decisions, for which there are many methods and approaches, each arguing they are best. Determining how to discern what is best for you and your family in this overwhelming information age can be mind-boggling, especially to someone experiencing ‘pregnant brain.’
Trained Parenting Preparation Coaches are there to guide you though the process of both discovering and assessing the best choices for you and your family - which may not always be the same ones that fit other people. Your family is an individualized unit, different from other families. Your needs and goals differ and constantly shift and evolve. A trained Parenting Preparation Coach helps you discover what fits your life best, and helps you meet those goals. Why would you not train a doula to offer this as part of the preparation for birth and parenthood?
Of couse, it goes further. Momdoulary Method thinks it only logical that your doula also be a childbirth educator, ready to prepare you fully for childbirth - it would seem amiss to do otherwise. As for post-partum doula, your doula will be there after the birth of your child, and you will have formed a bond. It makes sense that this person be someone you could call on, if it works for each of you, to assist with care after the birth of your child. Finally, just as your doula/parenting preparation coach will be helping you transition through the Big Learning Curve of the Birth Year and Beyond, it makes sense that they be prepared to walk you through the nuts and bolts of the physical organization of your home. Training as a professional organizer focused on creating a home space that supports you in creating the life you envision for your family only makes sense.
So it is that Momdoulary Method requires a 5-fold training for their certified doulas. Our doulas are certified in 5 areas of expertise: Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Parenting Preparation Coach, In-home Childbirth Educator, and Family Lifestyle Professional Organizing.
Why would anyone want anything less? We know we wouldn’t, so we train professionals ready to meet all your needs.
